Who are We?

Omega U is the mentoring program for the PLL Chapter of the 3rd District of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., serving the greater PWC and surrounding communities. Omega U aligns with the Fraternity’s Four Cardinal Principles: Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance, and Uplift. The program was launched at Potomac Middle School in Dumfries, VA, in 2009 to assist youth who were negatively impacted by their environment, whether in the classroom or the neighborhood. Since then, the program has expanded to twelve locations within the county and has impacted over 960 students.

Our Mission

The mission of Omega U is to partner with Prince William County Public Schools (PWCPS) to support and provide resources for students through pre-collegiate initiatives, career readiness, and community service. The Omega U program executes a multitude of extracurricular and community service events each year. In addition, Omega U provides tutoring, character development, preparation for Standards of Learning, public speaking opportunities, and Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) projects for participating students. Omega U contributed in-kind donations valued at $56,000 to various charitable organizations.

 What are Our Programs

Pre-College Initiative

The Omega U Program hosts a comprehensive Scholarship Workshop led by the PLL Scholarship Committee. This workshop provides students with a clear roadmap for navigating the college selection and application process. Through guided planning, resource sharing, and mentorship, students are equipped with the tools and knowledge needed to pursue higher education at the college or university of their choice.

Career Readiness

The Career Readiness initiative prepares students to confidently pursue their future goals by reducing barriers to career exploration and decision-making. Programming emphasizes critical thinking, self-awareness, and civic responsibility, while exposing students to a range of career pathways. Participants learn how to evaluate opportunities, understand their strengths and interests, and make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.

Financial Literacy & Wealth Management

Omega U delivers engaging financial literacy instruction focused on building lifelong money management skills. Students learn the fundamentals of personal finance, including budgeting, saving, investing, and responsible financial decision-making. This program fosters financial awareness, knowledge, and positive habits that empower students to make sound financial choices and work toward long-term financial well-being.

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics)

Omega U provides hands-on STEAM experiences designed to spark curiosity and inspire students to explore technical and creative career pathways. Through interactive learning opportunities, students develop foundational skills relevant to fields such as coding, robotics, electronics, engineering, energy, and emerging technologies.

 Community Service

The Community Service component provides mentees with opportunities to give back through meaningful service projects that benefit the local community. By participating in hands-on service activities, students learn the value of civic engagement, teamwork, and social responsibility, while developing an understanding of the importance of paying it forward and contributing to causes greater than themselves.

Omega U students participated in an educational visit to the Pentagon, including a special meeting with the Honorable Lloyd Austin, United States Secretary of Defense.
